FAQ

"VR" stands for virtual reality. To enter specially designed 360° worlds, such as that of the Treverer Code, all you have to do is put on a pair of VR glasses. Through them, you not only see everything that is happening around you, but also perceive the sounds from the application.

A tour guide welcomes you to the Frankenturm and hands you a pair of VR glasses. In the Frankenturm you will receive a briefing on how to use the glasses and then you will start with the first station. Afterwards you will walk along the route together with the guide. At selected stations you put on the VR glasses and go into the virtual Trier of the past. Your tour guide will also tell you more about the historic city between the stops.

Experience with virtual reality is not a prerequisite for participation in the city tour. The guest guide will explain everything you need to know about using and operating the VR glasses at the beginning and will also be available for questions and assistance during the tour.

In principle, the tour is suitable for all people aged 13 and over who fancy a virtual journey through time and are curious about Trier's history. Although a certain affinity for technology is helpful when using the VR glasses, the guide will also be happy to help those who feel a little insecure.

Children from the age of 13 can participate in the city tour accompanied by an adult. Since VR is a very immersive experience, children must be ready to handle these impressions. In addition, the manufacturer of the PICO 4 Enterprise heasdset recommends that the devices should only be used from the age of 13. From the age of 16, teenagers can also take part in the city tour on their own.

The VR city tour can also be booked for private groups up to a maximum of 15 people. You can find more information and the booking form here.

The VR city tour is suitable for people with mobility impairments. The VR locations have been selected so that they are either accessible without barriers or an equivalent alternative is available. The "Trever Code" has also been programmed so that it can be experienced in its entirety from the starting point in the Frankenturm on a stationary basis if required.

Public appointments (in German) for the tour are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:30 am and Friday at 3 pm. Tours for private groups are organized individually. Here you can find information about this.

The VR city tour takes place mostly outside. If it is not possible to follow the conventional route of the Trever Code due to heavy rain or storm, the VR stations with all additional information can also be experienced in the Frankenturm, the starting and ending point of the route. In this version of the city tour, too, a guest guide will lead you through time with lots of exciting additional information.

The route is 2.5 km and takes about 2 hours. A stop is planned at each of the VR stations so that you can relax and enjoy the journey through time.

The tickets are only available in advance - in each case up to max. 1 hour before the appointment. Book the VR city tour easily online at the ticket agencies of ticket-regional or at the tourist information at the Porta Nigra. Tickets are not sold at the Frankenturm.

The VR headsets are comfortably adjustable and offer enough space to wear glasses underneath. However, depending on your visual acuity, the optical sharpness of the application may be perceived as lower.

Regular public guided tours are offered in German. For private group tours, English is currently also available and other languages will be possible in the future. Please send us a request.

Under Terms and Conditions you will find further information on booking and participation as well as on the virtual reality experience.
